About Taste the Trail

The inaugural ‘Taste The Trail’ bike ride was launched on Saturday 15th June 2019. The concept was the brainchild of South Burnett Food Ambassador and Chef Jason Ford who dreamt of combining two of the region’s biggest attractions… regional food and the South Burnett Rail Trail.

The unique event was the first of it’s kind in Australia and garnered tremendous excitement and major media coverage.

The event will be a leisurely ride – not a race. It doesn’t matter what age or fitness level, it’s not about who travels the quickest – it’s about absorbing the surroundings and sampling the local flavours along the way. Enjoy the journey rather than the destination. Celebrate the fresh air and scenery of the South Burnett and it’s delicious regional produce.

This year, 65 participating cyclists will meet in Kingaroy at 8am on Saturday, 8th of July 2023 and ride to Wondai. At each town, riders will feast on food made entirely from local produce, cooked by locals.

The South Burnett Rail Trail

The Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail includes Queensland’s longest sealed rail trail of 44km from Kingaroy to Murgon, located in the South Burnett. The section from Murgon to Kilkivan is located in the Gympie region.

The Kingaroy to Murgon section of the Rail Trail starts at O’Neill Square in the centre of Kingaroy and progresses north. This easily accessible, varied and unique rail trail offers close proximity to towns and villages through the region, each offering its own unique experiences and places to explore. Highlights of this section include the art galleries and museums in Kingaroy and Wondai, the Kingaroy wine region, and Barambah Creek.

Short distances between towns means a spot to refresh is never too far away. Enjoy a break and recharge with coffee at the cafes along the route or experience lunch at an authentic country pub.
